Hire Terms & Conditions

HIRERS AND DRIVERS

Hirers and drivers must be over 21 years of age.  Drivers must have held their full licence for three years or more. 

DRIVER'S LICENCES

All drivers must present a current, valid diver's licence suitable for the vehicle they are hiring on collection of the vehicle.  Additional drivers must also present their licence.

Hirers taking fee-paying passengers are required to present their valid Transport Service Licence, and their drivers must have a P endorsement on their licences.

DEPOSIT

Pre-payment of the estimated cost of the hire plus a security bond is required on commencement of the hire.  Contact us to find out the total deposit required for your hire.  We accept payment by credit card, EFT-POS and cash.  Direct credits may be arranged with sufficient advance notice.

INSURANCE

In the event of an accident, the insurance excess for all vehicles is $1000 plus GST.  This is subject to change without notice.  We do not offer a collision damage waiver.  You will not be covered by our insurance if you are operating outside the terms of the hire (e.g. the vehicle is being driven by an unauthorized driver).  Any accident or other serious incident must be reported to us immediately.

RETURN TIME

Return times are strictly enforced, as other hirers may be waiting for your vehicle.  If an extension is required, you must notify us as soon as possible.  Late return may incur additional charges.

GOODS CARRIED IN VEHICLES

Goods carried in vehicles are carried at the hirer's risk and are not covered by the vehicle insurance cover.  Metropolitan Rentals accepts no liability for damage done to any goods carried in our vehicles.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have all-inclusive unlimited mileage rates available?

Yes, unlimited mileage rates are available for cars, minibuses, vans, utes, 4x4s and some small trucks. There is a minimum of a 3 day rental to qualify for an unlimited mileage rate.

Can I return a vehicle to your premises when closed?

Yes we have a key drop box in the back of our office door. Ask us to clearly explain what rate you will be charged if you decide on this option. In some cases it will go into an additional day's hire.

Can I take your vehicle on the beach?

No sorry our vehicles are not insured on any beach whatsoever.

Do you do any one-way hires?

No, all vehicles have been picked up and returned to our office at 321 Dominion Road, Mt Eden.

How can I change or cancel a booking?

Call us by phone to advise us as soon as possible. Note that we have a cancellation fee on some vehicle types if adequate notice is not given prior to a cancellation.

Is there an additional charge for more than one driver?

No, there is no additional charge for having more than one driver. You can have up to 3 named drivers per vehicle. All drivers need to present a valid drivers license.

Whar are the driver licensing requirements for hiring vehicles?

You must be over 21 years of age, have held a full license for a minimum of 3 years and currently hold the class of license for the vehicle you wish to hire. If you are running a tour with fee paying passengers, you will need to present your valid Transport Service License and you driver will require a P endorsement.

What happens if I have an accident, breakdown or need assistance?

Contact us straightaway so we can advise how we can assist you. An emergency after hours number is provided on our answer phone.

What is your insurance excess?

Our Insurance Excess is $1500 + GST (this is subject to change)

Can I rent a vehicle on a Sunday?

We are closed on Sunday. However, we have a Sunday Hire option from 4.30pm Saturday to 8am Monday morning. This is a one day hire plus $10.

Can I take the vehicle across the Cook Strait?

Vehicles can be taken on the ferry but they must be returned to Auckland as we do not have any other offices located around New Zealand.
For larger vehicles (2 Ton and up) we have a few that are certified to cross on the ferry due to lashing point requirements etc. These are 2 Ton Furniture with Ramp or Tail Lift, 3 ton, 6 Ton, 11 Ton and 20 Ton Furniture with Tail Lift and the 18 Ton Curtainsider with Tail Lift.

Do your charge a cleaning fee if the vehicle is not returned clean?

Yes we will charge a fee if the vehicle is returned filthy or if rubbish is left behind in it.

Do you provide drivers?

No, all of our vehicles are self driven. We don't provide drivers.

Is fuel included?

All hirers pay for their own fuel the hire vehicle uses. If it not returned full we charge you for what it takes to fill the tank. We have petrol & diesel on our premises charged at market rates.

Do you offer a Collision Damage Waiver?

Sorry, we do not offer a Collision Damage Waiver.

What do I need to bring to the office when I collect a vehicle?

The driver of the vehicle will need to provide their current drivers licence (full) relevant to the class of vehicle they are hiring. If there are additional drivers we will also need to see their licences.
You will also need to pay a deposit consisting of the estimated cost of the hire plus a bond. The bond is generally $500, but may be more for some vehicles or for extended hire periods. This can be paid by cash, EFT-POS or credit card. Ask us about the correct deposit for your hire.

What is the difference between daily, weekly and weekend rates?

Daily rates are on a 24 hours basis. Trucks and other commercial vehicles have an 8am or 4.30 pick up time. Weekly rates offer a reduced rate for hires of seven consecutive days. The weekend special is available from 4.30pm Friday to 8am Monday and is a 2 day hire charge.

Why are your rates not advertised on your website?

We have a complex rate schedule with multiple options available for vehicles, depending on duration of hire and distance travelled. Our staff can ensure you get the correct information for your particular hire. Rates are subject to change. We can email you our latest price list or mail it to you on request.
